Kardinal Bolesław Kominek

(1903-1974)

is one of the most outstanding figures of the post-war Church in Poland and an undisputed statesman. The first Polish archbishop of Wrocław, a visionary, erudite, precursor of Polish-German reconciliation, the main initiator and author of a conciliatory message addressed to German bishops, in which the famous words “We forgive and ask for forgiveness” are uttered.
